J.I. Kleinberg - Five collage poems

Artist, poet, and freelance writer, J.I. Kleinberg is a Best of the Net and Pushcart nominee and winner of the 2016 Ken Warfel Fellowship. Her found poems have appeared in Diagram, Heavy Feather Review, Rise Up Review, The Tishman Review, Hedgerow, Otoliths, and elsewhere. She lives in Bellingham, Washington, USA, and blogs most days at thepoetrydepartment.wordpress.com. 

These visual poems are from an ongoing series (1,700+) of collages built from phrases created unintentionally through the accident of magazine page design. Each chunk of text (roughly the equivalent of a poetic line) is entirely removed from its original sense and syntax. The text is not altered and includes no attributable phrases. The lines of each collage are sourced from different magazines.​

Luc Fierens - Baby Doc / Fatale / Fotomodella / Gold

Linked to the Fluxus tradition, and with deep roots in postal art and visual poetry, Fierens has the rebellious and challenging look of a poet determined to upset the flattening of our imaginary. Its deeply desacralizing and incisive tone finds in the assault and violence of the advertising and journalistic language a privileged way to intervene critically about reality, giving expression to an alternative and dissident visuality. The focus of his work within the field of collage focuses on his poetic vision, a transgressive vision that is involved in a persistent game of contradictions to end up in a hybrid entity halfway between the plastic and the purely poetic: collage-poem.

The aesthetic option of Luc Fierens is nourished by the fragment, the deviation, and above all, a will of critical activation that is not very present in the field of collage. As he struggles to awaken other visions, which can counteract the cosmetic visions of mediated reality, his work transcends the boundaries of mere combinatorc exercise to deepen the much wider and more sensitive territory of a poetic that unravels and unmasks.

Rrose Selaby - Two Pieces

Rrose Selaby was born in Cordoba (Spain) in 1980. In the dark since then. Got a Degree in Art History. Was considering researching either on Carousels or Rhinoceros.

"I always loved cutting out papers. I keep them in envelopes and in a tin box that my brother gave me. Each time that I open it, I remember my grandmother Dolores, who kept a hundred of holy cards in a shoebox in order to pray with them every day."

Mike Busam - Ten Pieces

Mike Busam was born in the state of Ohio in 1968 and have never left. Currently works for the Lane Library Bookmobile & Outreach Services department in Hamilton, Ohio. Spends most days at grade schools (which is a lot of fun). 

He says: "I aim to use materials that I have at hand and within reach--recycled newspaper (older ones have interesting fonts and design elements), magazines, used guitar strings, leaves, dead insects, etc. Lately, I've been using letter stamps to make one-off pieces, and that's been fun. I try to work within my limited abilities as best as I can, and usually the resulting mistakes and miscues are far more interesting than my usually serious original intentions."

Angela Caporaso - Three collages

Angela Caporaso is an Italian artist focusing on visual poetry and artists books, working with the mediums of collage, trash-art and, more recently, digital formats . Angela Caporaso's art has always been characterized by a constant research and experimentation.

Since her first exhibitions, which date back to the eighties, she has revealed a constant strain towards new expressive languages.

Luc Fierens - Four collages

Luc Fierens (born in Mechelen, Belgium, 1961) is a networked collagist and visual poet provocateur. His work emerged out of Poesia Visiva, Mail Art and Fluxist circles. Fierens’ diverse practice focuses on language/image as a raw material and the exploration of alternative forms of distribution and communication.

As such, he promoted a transnational dialogue prior to the inception of the Internet with his mail art projects (“Social-Art”, “Cornucopiae…”) and publications (Postfluxpostbooklets) from 1984.

Now, he continues his research with artists (since 2013 he has worked closely with performance artist Elish Falanga) from his “social architecture” with whom he exchanges, forwards, and directs art, and collaborative projects through the (e-)mail, and with whom he organizes performances, publications (artists’ books) and exhibitions.

His publications and works can be found in major archives (R&M Sackner Archive, Miami and Artpool, Budapest), libraries (MoMa Library, Rare Books Collection of the University of Buffalo), museums (MaRT (Trento e Rovereto, Italy)) and several private collections (Fondazione Berardelli (Italy), Verbeke Foundation (Belgium)).

Phil Openshaw - Five visual pieces

Phil Openshaw is a photographer and visual artist who works within a wide variety of media including digital manipulation, glitch, audiovisual transformation, sound art, coding, calligraphy, music, print, painting and asemic writing.

Professional photographic work includes a broad practice with themes including: urban environments, transformation, people, their impact on landscape and nature; the conflicting interests involved in organised urban development, the existing environments and population.

Abstract pieces often include photography combined with drawn and abstract imagery. Working with digital and abstract works led to an exploration of the visual languages of text, propaganda, and printed media leading to current asemic and related works.
