Kristine Snodgrass - Six asemic pieces

Kristine Snodgrass is an artist, poet, professor, curator, and publisher living in Tallahassee, Florida.

“Asemics by Kristine Snodgrass offer the possibility of a new way of "reading" that thus far has only been partially mapped; the content of her work is an exploration of new depths of human experience. In this context, asemic writing becomes a new form and practice after the postmodern and into the brave new world of the post-literate. ” -De Villo Sloan

Comments on work:

In the spirit of Surrealist Decalcomania (resembling the famous Rohrschach Test) my "decals" leave an image to be interpreted by the viewer, but are directly "revelatory about the signatory" and closely related to Surrealist games like marbling and Ghosts of My friends.

The release patterns (when the paint is pulled apart), similar to viscous maculae, occurring in the natural world (flames, plants), are complex and evocative in their appearance creating a connectedness of seemingly random patterns. Not one is alike.

When in collaboration with the patterns, etc, one is not simply adding to, but working in a cosmic milieu that is expressive and spiritual. The amount of mark is irrelevant, therefore. The act of being, in concert, stands principal.
